Why I Always Decorate My Own Gift Bags

Before we get to the filler, I want to share my gift bag secret. I rarely use a plain gift bag or a gift bag that is not embellished with decorative accents. To get that boutique, high-end look on a budget, I love to decorate the bags customized for each recipient! For the bags you see in my videos, I take a simple, affordable gift bags and add my own flair with things like ribbon, flowers, rhinestones, or leftover decorations and reused items. They are unique and no two gift bags look the same unless I am making a set. By coordinating the bag’s decor with the gift bag filler, you create a beautiful, cohesive gift that looks like it cost $20 at a specialty shop.

  1. The Decorative Napkin: Use Dollar Tree or different color napkins to turn ordinary napkins into a perfect tissue paper substitute.

  2. Coffee Filters: These create a beautiful, ruffled “peony” look that is so sophisticated.

  3. Wrapping Paper Fan: Use leftover pieces of wrapping paper to create a stiff, dramatic topper.

  4. Tulle or Netting: This provides an airy, “wedding-style” elegance that is reusable.

  5. Curling Ribbon: A “nest” of colorful curls adds a fun, festive pop to any bag.

  6. A Giant Bow: Go big! One oversized bow can fill the entire opening of a bag.

  7. The Plushie: My favorite and it is an additional gift! Use a small stuffed animal as a “2-in-1” gift and filler.
