Lace and Ribbon Red Gift Bag

DIY Valentine’s Day Gift Bag

It’s amazing how quick and easy it is to make this beautiful DIY Valentine’s Day gift bag. I love the texture and using different elements on my gift bags. For this design, I layered paper, ribbon, and lace to make this beautiful Valentine’s Day gift bag. The materials I used are easy to find and they cost less than buying a gift bag but the result is much more dramatic.

When I first thought of the idea to create my custom DIY gift bag designs as part of a gift design set I couldn’t believe how easy it was to custom make an elegant gift bag that looked like it was from a fancy boutique. I had plain paper gift bags with handles and used scrapbooking paper, wrapping paper, ribbon, fabric, beads and pieces I had left from other projects to make magnificent gift bags. People used to always love my unique gift wrap designs but now they prefer receiving one of my custom handmade gift bags because not only are they are stylish one-of-a kind bags but the can be kept as a decorative piece to hold keepsakes of other interesting items.

I enjoy decorating gift bags because they are so easy to make and it is so much fun to create new designs. Gift bags are flat and have a rectangle shape so it isn’t difficult to craft an exciting design. There are also no rules like in gift wrapping where the paper has to be the correct size, the corners have to be perfect and the wrapped gift has to look perfect before the bow is attached. With gift bags, all that needs to be done is add decorative accents and it will look amazing.

I started decorating store bags to give as a gift bag. The bags you get in stores are usually strong and good quality so they are a perfect canvas to decorate.

Here I transformed a Sephora store bag into a Valentine’s gift bag with products from the store as the gift. It came out beautiful and was very easy to create. Click here for step-by-step instructions to create this design.

How to Make the DIY Valentine’s Day Gift Bag

DIY Valentine's Day Gift Bag

Step 1 – Cut a piece of decorative red scrapbook paper the length and width of the front of the gift bag.

Step 2 – Apply craft glue to the front of the gift bag and attach the red piece of scrapbook paper to the front of the bag, lining up the edges of the paper with the edges of the bag.

Covering the front of the gift bag with a nice piece of red paper will give an inexpensive gift bag a more expensive look.

Step 3 – Cut a piece of the wide lace the entire length of the front of the gift bag. Glue the lace to the left side of the front of the gift bag, lining up the edges of the lace and the bag.

Step 5 – To cover the handles with ribbon, apply a small amount of glue to a few inches of the handle and wrap the ribbon around the handle where it meets with the inside of the bag.

Step 6 – Continue to add small amounts of glue to the handle, a few inches at a time, slightly overlapping the ribbon as you continue to wrap the ribbon around the handle.

Step 7 – Finish by cutting the ribbon and gluing the end behind the handle where it meets with the inside of the bag. Repeat this process with the other handle

DIY Satin Bow

Step 8 – To make the bow, cut an 18-inch piece of ribbon and create two evenly sized loops with the ends being the same length. Apply craft to the inside of the ribbon where the loops overlap to secure.
