These DIY Halloween Faux Wax-Dripped Candles are easy to create not just to make cool Halloween candles but for any occasion. You can make different styles and colors depending on the occasion you are celebrating. The wax from the hot glue gun can be dripped onto a candle holder using the same technique used for the DIY Halloween candles to make a wax dripped bottle as I did here. I used a balsamic vinegar bottle but a wax dripped wine bottle work use the same technique.

How to Make DIY Skull Candle Dollar Tree (Faux Wax Dripped)

I turned a plain Dollar Tree skull into a spooky, gothic dripping‑wax candle, and it instantly became one of my favorite Halloween decorations. If you love high‑end haunted‑mansion style decor but want to stay on a budget, this DIY project looks shockingly expensive while using simple, inexpensive materials.

Dripping hot glue to form the melted‑wax effect on the tube and skull.

To create the faux wax drips, I used a paper tube and hot glue which is my go‑to method for getting realistic candle wax without the mess or safety issues of real melted wax. Once the glue sets, a little metallic paint brings the whole piece to life.

For this skull candle, I dry‑brushed silver over the raised areas and added matte black shading into the crevices. This gives the skull an aged, dusty, haunted look, almost like it’s been sitting in an old Victorian parlor for decades.

This technique is fast, beginner‑friendly, and perfect for transforming Dollar Tree finds into dramatic Halloween decor.

How to Make DIY Halloween Candles

  • Cut three paper towel rolls the size you would like for each candle.
  • Trace the shape of an opening of the paper towel roll on a piece of cardboard.
  • Cut out the circle and tape a stone to it. This will give the candle some weight so it doesn’t fall over.

  • Tape the tape-covered stone to the end of the paper towel roll.

  • Tear the top of the tube to make it the shape of a melted candle.
  • Fill the paper tube with tissue and place the candle inside.

For the black Halloween Candles, use the same technique to make the base for the paper towel roll Halloween candle.

  • Drip the hot glue over the paper towel rolls.

  • Paint them black and brush the dried and cooled hot glue drips with silver paint to give it the aged, ashed look.

How to Decorate With Faux Wax Dripped Halloween Candles

These flameless wax drip candles are an easy way to add a creepy gothic vibe to your Halloween decor. Here are some ideas how to use these DIY Halloween candles for your spooky atmosphere.

DIY Fake Halloween Candles vs. Real Candles

You can create the same spooky Halloween atmosphere with wax-dripped flameless candles as you can with real candles, often at a fraction of the cost. Here are some of the advantages of using DIY fake Halloween candles.

  • No open flame: Flameless candles eliminate the open-flame fire hazard that comes with real candles.
  • Easy to customize: You can decorate and finish the candle exactly how you want it to look.
  • Inexpensive: Make them with inexpensive Dollar Tree candles or transform reused materials into spooky candle decorations.
  • Reusable: Store your flameless Halloween candles and bring them out again year after year.
  • Versatile: Customize them for Halloween, fall, Christmas, or almost any holiday or special occasion.
