Elegant DIY Pencil Holder

Learn how to make an elegant DIY pencil holder with an attached vase to brighten your home office. Now that a lot of people are teleworking and school is getting ready to start, here are some unique and creative ideas to help organize your space using things you may already have around your house! DIY Pencil holders are very easy and inexpensive to make and look beautiful on a desk.  It would great next to my DIY Fabric Bulletin Board or DIY Cereal Box Organizer.  The vase is made from a repurposed water bottle so it can be filled with water to hold fresh flowers. This design is simple to make and you can add your flair to personalize the design.

This DIY Pencil Holder is very easy to make with just a few household items. I love to find ways to recycle things usually tossed into the recycle bin into beautiful and useful items. To make this DIY pencil holder, you will need a tin can with the lid removed, washed and dried. For this design (I used a 14.5 oz can).

You will also need two plastic water bottles. For the vase I used a tall bottle that was smooth without ridges and for the small container, I used standard plastic water bottle so it would be easy to cut it evenly using the ridges as a guide.

To secure the structure of the pencil holder, I used a sturdy piece of cardboard. This keeps everything in place in one unit so it can easily be moved and is more stable than a stand alone pencil holder.

Materials to Make the Elegant Pencil Holder with Vase:

  • 1 Empty 15oz Can (washed and top removed)
  • 2 Empty Water Bottles
  • Cardboard
  • Trim or ribbon
  • Multi-Surface Acrylic Paint
  • Hot Glue Gun or Craft Glue

How to Make the DIY Pencil Holder with Vase:

  • Cut the bottles as shown below to make the vase and small organizer. For this design I cut the large bottle 7-1/5 inches tall and the small 2 -1/2 inches.

  • Paint the cardboard, bottles and can with Multi-Surface Acrylic Paint. Let dry. Apply two coats for a full coverage.
  • Glue the cans to the cardboard with a hot glue gun.
  • Glue trim around the cardboard and around the rims of the bottles with craft glue.

Add flowers to the vase and enjoy your pretty, custom made organizer!
